WREN: If you don’t mind me asking... how long have you had your tattoo?
NHI: Since I was seventeen. I had to lie to the guy.
WREN: Really? What did you parents say?
NHI: We, uh, weren’t speaking at the time.
WREN: Oh. Sorry.
NHI: No, it’s ok. They had just - they’re not terrible people, but - I’m just not what they thought they were getting into. I guess you know how that is.
WREN: I actually think I’m pretty lucky. My dad’s like my best friend.
NHI: But your mom...?
WREN: Our relationship is not good, but it’s not - I can put up with all the little stuff, you know? I know she cares about me. It’s not that.
NHI: Is it the way she talks about other people? My dad used to say stuff about my friends that he’d never say about me.
WREN: Nah. My mom seems to try really hard to get along with my friends.
NHI: So... why are you avoiding her?
