I love that this is how Sam’s mom turned out when I was working through her character today. She was originally pretty much the opposite in my head, a big no-discipline sunshiney hippie. Maybe I’ll hang on to that idea if we ever meet Sam’s dad.

I put off writing and drawing this one (which was a mistake, now I wish I had spent more time with it) because it involved thinking about my own self-defense instructor in college who gave this kind of advice, and worse. Seriously, he gave us both the Don’t Wear Baggy or Dangly Things thing and the Don’t Tempt the Fates With Your Tight-Clothed Sexiness shtick, but the icing on the cake was I Know I’m Not Supposed To Say She Deserved It But If She’s Drinking Near Strangers She Did. Ugh. Just thinking about him still makes me feel sick. And all the contradictory “safety” advice given to women is reminiscent of all the double-edged swords women have to carry in any case, and it’s this big game with all these contradictory rules and the only way to win is to not exist and never have existed. If you try to ’splain the rules to me, please don’t be surprised if I’m not super grateful for your awesome helpfulness.

In other news! I obviously tweaked the site a bit this weekend, let me know if anything is not working.

In other news, I seriously need to work on drawing Wren in profile and from behind because I think her hair as of now defies physics.

I drew Wren’s X-Men patch and said to myself, “where have I seen this before? OH YEAH, Scott Pilgrim. Hey! That comes out today! Good timing, self!”

I used a tomato as my fake-apple because of a shirt a friend made once for Coming Out Day. It had a tomato that was saying, “Guys, I have something to tell you. I’m not a vegetable…”
It is one of my favorite things.
