Riot Nrrd

(Since Hurricane Irene knocked out my electricity, comics are not panning out. I’m trying to use the off time – as always! – to get some  work on*~*other projects*~* done, which I can hopefully share with you soon! This zine preview will hopefully satiate you today. There may be a puppyverse comic coming to you Thursday or Friday.)

Super started with this thought: I could probably draw one hundred lady super heroes and villains without resorting to a regurgitated playboy bunny. I decided to take up that challenge and started sketching. It’s an exercise for character building and a fresh way to practice my art. (Although the thought started with women supers, there’s already one non-binary being in the mix, and I expect the gender category to be a flexible one, as long as I’m pushing back against all the normative body standards of the genre.)

Super will exhibit the fruits of this exercise, as well as thoughts I’ve teased out about supers as a genre, my own relationship to superheroes, and more! There will definitely be an e-zine version. I’m thinking about doing a black and white print, and a color print for slightly more. I plan for this to be an ongoing series (at least ten issues of ten heroes each) – with whatever I make going towards art lessons for me, which means better comics for you! It is the most winningest idea ever.

I don’t have a date yet – but I just wanted to get you as excited as I am!
