I wanted to include Tomoyo in that third panel, since she’s my own young queer manga touchstone (like, looking up a picture of her for the first time in years seriously gave me stomach butterflies), but I thought she was less obviously iconic.

I would have loved you forever if you had added Tomoyo! She can be so underrated in the, “Lesbians in Manga” community. Plus, she was just so, (I can’t think of another word for it) wholesome. She was the first one I ever identified with it. It wasn’t so sexy or angsty, just, “I love you more than anything, so I’m going to do everything I can to make you happy, even if that means never being with you and making sure you never find out my true feeling. But please forgive me if I fan girl over you every once in awile. I love you too much to contain myself” Even now I find I relate best to her. Okay, rant over.
I love Princess Mononoke! But the dvd costs $28.95 from the store 🙁
Actually, I’ve not really watched much Anime or Manga. But I have enjoyed the Ghibli I have seen (Spirited Away, Howl’s Moving Castle, Porco Rosso, The Cat Returns). Keep meaning to find more, but I’m currently concentrating on my Kaiju collection.
